In the account of the Transfiguration we have Moses representing the law, Elijah representing the prophets, and Jesus as the fulfillment of both of these teachings. It is fitting that the Church puts this scene before us at the beginning of Lent, a time that we should be considering just what the Paschal Mystery should mean in our own lives. Jesus is glorified in this account and as Peter did should we not also become “excited” about the mystery of God that He gave Himself up with such a humble, vulnerable love not only to sacrifice Himself for our salvation but to also demonstrate the way that we should relate to one another as Christians. So as we proceed through Lent let us all heed the words of God and “listen to Him” by following the works of charity and love for one another.
