Deacon Bill's Devotion

There is a message in the Gospel today other than the obvious theme of
Thomas and his doubt concerning the resurrection of the Lord.  This theme is the “peace of Christ” that is imparted by the Holy Spirit and is instilled in all of the faithful. Three times in Gospel Jesus says “peace be with you” and after the second time He breathed out the Holy Spirit upon the disciples. This peace that is described in the Gospel is not a worldly peace such as the absence of war or disturbance in ones life but rather an inner peace that God gives to those who truly attempt to follow the will of God. This is a peace that trusts in God and in the presence of God in ones life. If we trust in the Holy Spirit dwelling inside us and listen to the Spirit that The Christ imparted to each of us we too can obtain this peace that Jesus emphasizes to us today, and we can share that peace with one another throughout this joyous season of Easter!
