“Fear Not, Little Flock” LK 12:32In our first reading, the Israelites put their trust in God’s promises and God remained faithful even when they doubted or were rebellious. Abraham and Sara, in today’s second reading, gave us a perfect example how to completely put our trust in God. They went where God asked them to go and they believed that they would have a son because God had promised them.
Today’s Gospel begins with Jesus telling us not to live in fear, for God’s kingdom is a gift to us. Jesus uses two simple examples. The first is about the head of the household who was out of town for a wedding celebration. The servants would not know when to expect their master’s return. The second is about a thief. Jesus reminds us to seek security not in worldly things but in the treasures of God’s kingdom. Our Lord is also warning us to be always ready and steadfast in our faith as we do not know when He will come. And He will come unexpectedly. But we don’t have to be afraid knowing that Jesus would never leave us alone.
He came to set us free from fear, sin and death. “The only thing we have to fear, is not fear itself, but a lack of faith.”
